A real place. A personal connection.
East Fork Mining takes its name from the East Fork of the San Gabriel River. Greg learned to pan for gold there in the early 1980s. A few flakes were enough to get him hooked.
Greg began cutting stones in the early 1980s and has spent more than four decades developing his eye for material, shape, and finish. He makes freeform and asymmetrical cabochons as well as flat cuts, choosing the outline that suits the stone. He polishes the back, too.
His roots are in Southern California’s rockhounding and lapidary community, with years of classes, club connections, and gem shows. His work has taken him to events around California and into Arizona. The name reflects that local connection; his materials come from a much wider world.
